Great that you’re going to study Physics and Astronomy at the UvA and VU and/or Mathematics at the UvA! The study association that belongs your study is the Natuurwetenschappelijke Studievereniging Amsterdam (NSA), or translated to English the Scientific Study Association Amsterdam. In contrary to student associations, at the NSA nothing is compulsory. However, a lot is possible! For just 35 euros you are member during your complete study and 14 euros for master's students. With this membership you get 15% discount on books in the bachelor, you can join countless activities organised by members, for members of the NSA. Also you can enjoy yourself in our living room ‘the NSA-kamer’ at A0.08 on Science Park 904, or room KA383 at the VU.
